Head out of the station car park, cross the railway and left to climb steeply with terraced cottages on the right. Bear left to reach a gate that marks the start of forest tracks heading east from the village. The route runs above the Lledr Valley with occasional views back towards the village and surrounding mountains. Undulating terrain will drop you to a junction with a minor lane. Turn left onto the lane to enjoy views across Glyn Lledr occupied with occasional farm houses and left again to cross the river before reaching the A470. Cross the main road to join a cycle track on the opposite side (caution – fast moving traffc). A back-road towards Betws-y-Coed joins the A5 that runs directly through the village. Return to Dolwyddelan by train (note: limited service), retrace the route or adventure out of Betws-y-Coed on the A5 towards Capel Curig to pick up Route 2 near the Ugly House to complete a challenging 20km loop.
